
Sophie Mogorosi is a lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Botswana. She is employed by the Attorney General's Office and currently holds the position of Chief State Counsel. In her role, she negotiates and drafts commercial and international agreements on behalf of the Government. Through her work, she has gained expertise in various areas including international law, international trade law, intellectual property law, environmental law, and nuclear law.
Her notable achievements include advising the Government on major projects such as the construction of the Kazungula Bridge and the Botswana-Zambia One Stop Border Post. She has also played a key role in ensuring Botswana adheres to its international commitmentsโsuch as the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materialโand has assisted in the ratification or accession to significant international conventions like the Minamata Convention on Mercury. Additionally, Sophie has represented Botswana in high-level international meetings, serving as head of delegation at forums including the United Nations Ad Hoc Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes.
