Over most of the Sheet the bedrock is covered by up to 150 m of semi consolidated Kalahari Group sediments. Th e only bedrock exposures are ofTransvaal Supergroup iron rich shale at Jaaneng Hill, a low topographic rise in the far north west. Borehole data for the Sheet are relatively sparse, with most boreholes being drilled on the commercial farms adjacent to the Molopo River. Th e map h as been compiled from detailed aeromagnetic data and the records of 53 boreholes. Th e lithological contacts largely correspond to lines interpreted from the aeromagnetic data.
