A new compilation of mines and mineral occurrences across Botswana, sourced from government publications, industry reports and journal articles, facilitated an improved understanding of their geological settings in the project area. They were complemented by the geophysical interpretation which elucidated the distribution of pre-Kalahari lithologies and a more complete picture of the structure, some of which plays an important role in controlling mineralization.
Priority 1 target areas have been delineated where there are known deposits and occurrences. Certain target areas have been extended, based on evidence of targets and/or continuity of the favourable host rocks and structure. The geophysical data, especially magnetic and gravity, were incorporated in determining the extensions, many of which are located under cover of sedimentary or volcanic rocks. Exploration activity and results were influential as well.
Priority 2 target areas have been delineated where deposits and occurrences are not known or poorly defined, but where the geological setting is favourable for specific metallotects.
