This report covers two of the offshore geological basins of southwestern Africa: the Orange basin located in South Africa and southern Namibia and the LUderitz basin, immediately to the north, as depicted in Figure 1/1. The report also includes the Nama basin, the Passarge basin and the Kalahari -Karoo basin extending from southwestern Namibia to northeastern Botswana. An overview of facts and environment put the oil and gas activities in the general context of South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Geological setting emphasizes the geodynamic history of the basins. Then follows a factual description of the past exploration and discoveries, an analysis of the petroleum systems, and conclusions on the oil and gas potential of each basin. The report also summarizes the current petroleum legislation and provides economic scenarios relating to potential discoveries.
