The State of the Environment Reviews (SOERs) in Botswana dates back to 1990 when the National Conservation Strategy (NCS) was developed to address environmental issues identified as being directly or indirectly related to pressures assodated with rapid economic growth. Government's concern at growing pressure on the resources led to the formulation of the NCS, which culminated in a National Policy on Natural Resources Conservation and Development (Government Paper No.1, 1990).
