The Interpretation of Aeromagnetic Data of Northern Botswana
Summary
In 2020, the project “Consultancy Services for the Interpretation of Aeromagnetic Data of Northern Botswana” was undertaken by an international consortium with the primary objective to advance the geological knowledge in an area concealed by thick Kalahari sands, to unlock mineral potential and provide comprehensive data/information to foster private sector investment.
Physical Parameters and Trace Elements of the BCL Mine Discharge at Selibe Phikwe, Eastern Botswana
Spatial and temporal variability in trace elements is primarily influenced by chemical, physical, and biological processes. In the context of our study area, which is located in Selibe Phikwe within the Motloutse catchment of the Limpopo Basin (Figure 1), understanding the trace elements is crucial due to its extensive areal extent.
Palapye Geotechnical Mapping
The Palapye geotechnical mapping project was conducted at a regional 1: 50 000 from 2018 to 2019. The project focused on the investigation of soil strata at shallow depths where soil properties are of significance to normal infrastructure development and land-use planning decisions. The study determined that 7.2% of the study area was of favorable conditions, while 71% was classified as intermediate.
Ramotswa Geotechnical Investigations
Malete Sub-Landboard Sub-Landboard engaged Botswana Geoscience Institute (BGI) to investigate three areas earmarked for development in Ramotswa, Boatle, and Otse villages. The project was completed in January 2021 and the total areal coverage of the project site is 362 hectares.
Urban Geotechnical Mapping – Palapye
BGI has is undertaking this Project due to the accelerated infrastructure development in the Palapye area, Central District of Botswana.
Project overview
This project entails identification and assessment of potential and natural constraints as they impact on development and infrastructure provision and affect future land use planning i.e. Geotechnical, topographical & hydrological conditions.

BGI undertakes National Mineral Accounting under the Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES) - a global partnership led by the World Bank that aims to promote sustainable development by mainstreaming natural capital in development planning and national economic accounting systems, based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA).
The Scope of this Project is to produce the following;
