This report has been compiled to summarise all available information on limestone, marble, dolomite and calcrete prospects and deposits in Botswana. In Precambrian rocks considerable reserves of dolomitic marbles and dolomitic limestones could be identified. Calcitic marbles occur only in distintive horizons of variable thickness at Mmadinare, Makoro and Mahibitswane. Calcrete deposits are superficially developed over large areas at different places. However, variation in the chemical composition, laterally and vertically, are a major drawback to the future development of the deposits. The calcitic marbles, dolomitic marbles and limestones as well as some calcretes can be utilised for quick lime burning.ย
