In August 1995, the Maun Groundwater Development Project (MGDP) Phase I: Exploration and Resource Assessment was commissioned to address the current and future water supply needs for Maun village. Maun is the NorthWest (Ngamiland) district headquarters and an important tourist centre situated on the edge of the Okavango delta. The village is undergoing rapid development due to increasing population and community needs as well as a growing tourist industry. These new developments have resulted in an increased demand for water in the village.
