The area is typified by an exceptionally flat and monotonous terrain. Minor changes in relief are related to dry valleys of the Molopo and Sekhutlane systems and hummocky superficial cappings of calcrete along some sections of the Molopo river
between Mabule and Leporung with no positive topographic features except for the Lekhubu Ridge. Physiographically representing part of the eastern Kalahari Desert, much of the area is covered by sands and associated superficial deposits with consequently very few exposures of bedrock. The lack of exposure has posed severe constraints on the accuracy of this map.
