The area of quarter degree sheet 2326B is geologically described. It is underlain by the early Precambrian Mahalapye migmatite and by sedimentary rocks of the Palapye group and of Karoo age. A major granite intrusion, the Mahalapye granite, post-dates the migmatites; at least one dolerite sill, the Shoshong dolerite, intrudes the Shoshong formation rocks. Minor mafic and felsic dykes of various ages are also present. Economically important ironstone horizons are present in the Shoshong formation occur in quantity. Underground water at shallow depth is present over much of the area. ย
