ย The total abstraction for the monitoring period amounted to 12 412 519 m3, representing a significant increase of 3 062 992 m3 or 32.8 % from the previous reporting period (1st January 2002 31st December 2002) figure of 9 349 527 m3. This increase in abstraction can be mainly attributed to j unfavorable return water from the new slimes dam (Dam No. 8) as well as below average rainfall 1 for the season. A comprehensive water management strategy is currently being formulated, and this is expected to bring some positive improvements in the form of water retention within the treatment process thereby reversing the upward trend in abstraction.
